A certified Family Empowerment Coach implements the PAT model, emphasizing parent- child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being in their work with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curricula in culturally sensitive ways, the FEC facilitates, and reflects with families.

The PAT model builds strong communities, thriving families, and children who are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. PAT affiliates provide families with young children personal visits, group connections, child screenings, and resource connections. Personal visits, delivered in the home, are at the heart of the PAT model. Our home-visiting Family Empowerment Coach use the PAT Foundational Curriculum to plan and deliver visits that facilitate parent-child interaction, promote development centered parenting and support the family’s well-being.

Goals of the PAT model

• Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices
• Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues
• Prevent child abuse and neglect
• Increase children’s school readiness and school success.

• has a working knowledge of community resources within Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties
• possesses an outstanding combination of education, work experience, communication, and interpersonal skills
• exudes empathy, is conscientious, accepting, and sociable; is able to work independently, balance multiple roles, and has good judgment, personal ethics, and a willingness to learn and be coached

Job Duties (included, but not limited to):

• Assisting with recruitment efforts of families with young children
• Delivering personal visits, including time for planning, travel, record keeping, and entering notes according to designated timelines
• Facilitating resource connections
• Collecting data and documenting services
• Participate in required supervision and staff meetings
• Participate in required professional development trainings
• Conducting child health and developmental screens
• Develop, monitor and review goals with each family
• Plan, provide and document personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being
• Assisting with/leading monthly group connections to give families an opportunity to build social connections with each other
• Engage in parent-child interaction activities, and increase knowledge of ways to support children’s development
• Complete at least initial and annual developmental screening and health review for each enrolled child
• Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs
• Help parents and children transition to other services as needed
• Maintain and submit all required family and program documentation in a timely manner
• Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent educator certification annually
• Participate in continuous quality improvement

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree (60 or more college credits)
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Acceptable courses of study- social work, health, psychology, or a related field.
• Case management experience strongly preferred
• Minimum of 3 years Supervised experience working with young children and/or parents
• Must be comfortable going into the homes of families
• Able to adapt to flexible work hours in order to service families at convenient times for the
• Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths
• Strong organizational and record keeping skills
• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated (often in the field
• Computer skills; including web browsing, e-mail, Internet, and word-processing
• The FEC must complete the Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation Trainings before delivering PAT services, in addition to organization on-boarding.
